Impressive Engineering: Retaining Walls

When building a cabin in the Canadian Shield, often times working with the rugged landscape is a lot more cost effective than fighting it. The results, like this retaining wall, can not only save you money, but leave you with a stunningly unique cottage too.

When working on a lane in from the road to the owner's cabin, an even, natural driveway was hardly an option. By adding a good deal of fill and minimizing blasting however, not only does this beautiful home have an impressive, one-of-a-kind feature from the water, it also gives the lane above a breathtaking view of its own.
As explored before, similar ingenuity was implemented in a previous build that took a challenging rocky outcrop and transformed it into a unique, head turning basement bar.
