Countertop Questions: Quartz vs Granite

When it comes to designing a high end kitchen, a beautiful, one-of-a-kind stone countertop is almost always near the top of a client's wish list.

In 2017, one of the most talked about must-haves in a kitchen is a granite countertop. However, quartz countertops are steadily gaining popularity as a resilient alternative to their granite counterparts.
One of the major appeals of granite (above) is that it is a completely natural product. Because of this, every single slab of granite is completely unique. It's also a sturdy product compared to most other surfaces like butcher's block, for example.

Depending on where you get it from, granite can be costly because of the effort it takes to cut and ship- especially if you're importing premium material from somewhere far away.
Quartz (above) on the other hand, is an engineered product made from granite. While this means that you won't find any naturally occurring patterns in quartz, it does mean that it is highly customizable when it comes to matching your kitchen.

Being an engineered product also means that quartz is an easier product to produce, and doesn't require long distances for shipping in order to find the perfect piece. That said, quartz can still end up running the gamut from slightly more affordable than granite to just as expensive (if not more).
